Privacy Policy
We built TaM with privacy by design. We do not create accounts, we do not store your conversations, and we do not sell your data. This policy explains exactly what we do and do not do with the information that passes through TaM.

TaM is operated by YourLifeStep Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. We are the data controller for information processed through the TaM app and website.
The short version
TaM helps you find a therapist that matches your needs while minimising the amount of data we collect. The matching experience is designed to be private, transparent, and limited to the information required to suggest relevant therapists.

What data we process
Contact form submissions. If you submit a contact form on therapyamatch.com, we collect your first name, email address, subject, and message. This information is used solely to respond to your enquiry and is not shared with third parties. We retain contact form submissions for up to 12 months.
Therapist contact requests
If you use TaM to contact a therapist directly through the app, your first name and email address are shared with that therapist so they can respond to you. TaM logs that a contact was made (therapist ID, timestamp, and an anonymous session ID) for platform analytics, but does not retain the content of your message after delivery.
Conversation text
When you chat with TaM, your messages are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to understand your needs and suggest appropriate therapist matches.
- Messages are processed in real time to generate your matches.
- TaM does not store your conversation history.
- Anthropic retains API logs for up to 30 days for abuse prevention and service integrity.
- Your conversations are not used to train AI models.
- No identifying information such as name, email, or account ID is sent with your messages.
Location (optional)
If you choose to share your location for in-person therapist matching:
If you select in-person sessions, we ask for your postcode to find therapists near you. Your postcode is sent to postcodes.io, a free UK postcode lookup service, to convert it to approximate coordinates. We do not store your postcode. Only the coordinates are used, temporarily, for matching.
- It is used only to calculate distance to therapists.
- It is not stored or sent to any third party.
- It is not sent to the AI service.
- You can skip this step and still use TaM.
Saved matches
When you save a therapist to your matches:
- They are stored locally on your device only.
- They are encrypted using your device's secure storage.
- They are never uploaded to any server.
- They are deleted if you uninstall the app.
Third-party services
Anthropic (AI processing)
We use Anthropic's Claude API to power the matching conversation. Anthropic processes your messages to generate responses and matches. Data is retained for a maximum of 30 days for abuse prevention and is not used for model training.
In the event that our primary AI provider (Anthropic) is temporarily unavailable, your conversation may be processed by OpenAI's GPT model via OpenRouter, acting as a fallback service. OpenRouter is configured on our account to prevent any provider from storing or training on your data. The same data minimisation principles apply in all cases.

OpenRouter (fallback AI routing)
We use OpenRouter (openrouter.ai) as a fallback AI routing layer with zero data retention configured.
OpenAI (fallback AI provider)
OpenAI (openai.com) may process conversations as the fallback AI provider via OpenRouter. No data training is enabled for this fallback path.
Supabase (therapist directory)
Therapist profiles are hosted on Supabase infrastructure. We fetch therapist data from Supabase, but we do not send your personal data there as part of the matching flow. Standard server logs may record API requests. No personal user data is stored in our Supabase database for the client-side TaM matching experience.
Contacting Therapists Through TaM
When you choose to contact a therapist through the app, we collect the following to deliver your message:
- Your first name
- Your email address
- Your message
This information is used solely to send your message to the therapist via our email service (Resend). The therapist receives your email address as the reply-to address so they can respond to you directly.
We log a record of the contact event (therapist ID, an anonymous session identifier, your email address, and timestamp) in our secure database. This is used only for abuse prevention and support purposes.
We do not read, store, or use the content of your message beyond delivering it.
Analytics
We use PostHog (EU Cloud, hosted in the European Union) to collect anonymised usage analytics. This helps us understand how the app is used so we can improve it.
What we collect:
- App launch events
- Screen views
- Feature usage (e.g. match completed, therapist saved, therapist contacted, crisis modal opened)
What we do not collect:
- Your name, email, or any personally identifiable information via analytics
- The content of your conversations
- Cross-session tracking — each app session is treated as anonymous and independent
PostHog is configured with persistence: 'memory', meaning no persistent identifier is stored on your device between sessions. No cookies are used for analytics in the app.

What we do not do
- Create user accounts or store personal profiles.
- Store your conversation history.
- Track your location.
- Sell or share your data with third parties.
- Use your data for advertising.
- Use your data to train AI models.
- Use cookies or tracking on the app. The website uses no tracking by default.
Your rights under UK GDPR
As a UK resident, you have rights regarding your personal data, including:
- Access to know what data we process about you.
- Rectification to request correction of inaccurate data.
- Erasure to request deletion of data we hold.
- Restriction to ask us to limit how we use your data.
- Portability to receive your data in a portable format.
- Objection to certain types of processing.
- Withdraw consent by stopping use of TaM at any time.
Because TaM does not store personal data by design for the core matching flow, many of these rights are satisfied automatically. If you have any concerns, contact us directly.
Data retention
- Contact form submissions: retained for up to 12 months.
- Therapist contact requests: message content is not retained after delivery. A log of the contact event (therapist, timestamp, anonymous session ID) is retained for up to 12 months.
- Conversations: not stored by TaM. Anthropic retains API logs for up to 30 days.
- Location: not stored. Used only during your active session.
- Saved matches: stored on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app.
Children's privacy
TaM is designed for adults seeking therapeutic support. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you are under 18, please do not use the app without a parent or guardian's involvement.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data. All data transmitted between the app and our services uses HTTPS encryption. Saved matches are stored using your device's encrypted secure storage. API keys and secrets are stored securely on our servers and are never included in the app.
Therapist Portal
If you are a therapist using our registration portal, that service collects additional information including your name, email address, professional qualifications, and practice details. This data is:
- Stored securely in our database.
- Used to display your profile to potential clients in the TaM app.
- Subject to review and approval by our team before going live.
- Retained until you request removal.

Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically if you use TaM regularly.
